Music: What Happened? #21

It's 1989 time for Scott in this week's installment.

If you bought the very first 125 release, Belle Da Gama's Garden Abstract, or even if you didn't, you should check out the Bye Bye Blackbirds' brand new CD Houses and Homes. The band features BDG mastermind Bradley Skaught, and the album is chock full of guitar pop gems. During their in-store performance at Amoeba Records in Berkeley over the weekend, the BBBs covered songs by Gram Parsons, the Everly Brothers and the far more obscure Vulgar Boatmen; the band obviously has great influences, and have come up with a classic sound that's all their own. If you're impatient like me, you can get instant gratification by downloading it on eMusic or iTunes, or you can buy the CD at fine stores everywhere. Oh, and Loud Family/Game Theory's Gil Ray is a guest star on the album!

Scott thinks 1981 was not a very good year. What do you think?
